Jomsom-Muktinath trekking is a part of the Annapurna Circuit trek. It is quite popular among the trekkers for having breathtaking beautiful scenario and splendid view of mountains. The scenery of the trail ranges from forests of brilliant red rhododendrons to rocky cliffs and desert of Mustang. During the trek, you can make an adventure starting from world's deepest gorge Kali Gandaki Region into world's highest regions passing through an almost tree-less barren landscape, a steep rocky trail up and down hill and panoramic views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and several other peaks. You can also explore the hundreds of year’s old monastery, caves, local tribes and scenic beauties of the different landscapes.
Durng the first three days of trekking, you will pass through the rice terraces and villages inhabited by the indigenous people, mostly the Gurungs. Then after, your journey will become more interesting when you reach at Tatopani, where you can enjoy natural hot spring water. Then the trekking goes along the course of Kaligandaki River. Then the trek passes through the Jomsom and Kagbeni and finally reached at Muktinath at the height of 3800 M(12,464 feet), a sacred place for Hindus and Buddhist. In the next day, we come back to Jomsom village on the Tibetan Plateau where you can look around at the gateway to the “Forbidden Kingdom of Mustang”. In the following day, a flight will bring you to Pokhara, where you can have sightseeing and shopping as well. In the next day, we will have a few hours’ drive through green mountains to Kathmandu.
Day 01: Pokhara to Tikhedhunga(1577m)
After breakfast take a bus ride to Nayapul(trek starting point) for one hour than trek to Birethanti for 30minates where trekking permit and national park permit will be checked. The trail continues along the Bhurungdi Khola pasing through small villages and water fall you will reach a small village called Tirkhedhunga. Where you will spend a nights.
Day 02: Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani(2800m)
After crossing the suspension bridge over the Bhurungdi Khola, you will have to start a steep ascent to Ulleri( 2073m)using a continues stone steps. This is the hardest ascent in this course. From Ulleri trail continues gradually uphill through small village and Rhododendron forest you will be in Ghorepani.
Day 03: Ghorepani - Poonhill to Tatopani
Early in the morning climb uphill for one hour to reach poonhill(3210m) for sunrise tour and wider view of mountain in front , you will see the imposing Dhaulagiri accompanied by Tukuche Peak, Annapurna south, and a Hiumchuli. After breakfast trail continues downhill (1600m) through forest and several villages to reach to Tatopani where you can relax enjoying the natural hot spring water.
Day 04: Tatopani to Ghasa
From Tatopani, the course will follow along the Kali Gandaki river to Dana. It is the winter village of Thakalis who live upstream. To reach Ghasa from here, there are two routes. One with rocky path via Kabre and other via Kapcepani.
Day 05: Ghasa to Tukuche
Passing through upper village of Ghasa the source of Kaligandaki river become a wider and you will reach to Lete. From where one can have a great view of Dhaulagiri(8167m) and Annapurna(8091m). keep moving on from there soon you will reach to Tukuche the center of Thakali people.
Day 06: Trek from Tukuche to Kagbeni
From Jomson it will take about 3 hours to arrive in Kagbeni via Ekle Bhatti. The houses in Kagbeni are flat roofed in the Tibetan style. The inhabitants are also from the Tibetan family. This is the entrance of Mustang.
Day 07: Kagbeni to Muktinath
Walking through sandy path and stone path reaching to Jharkot and Ranipauwa you can see Muktinath, the sacred place for Hindus and Tibetan Buddhists. There are some things worthy of a special mention. There is the water wall which consists of fine streaks of water 108spouts. The water springs out through rocks. Surrounded by this water wall, the main temple stands of Vishnu.
Day 08: Trek from Muktinath to Jomsom
You now begin the descent down the dramatic Kali Gandaki Gorge, initially through arid country in the same geographical and climatic zone as Tibet. After passing through Jharkot and Khingar villages with typical Tibetan architecture, you follow the valley floor most of the way to Jomsom which is sprawled along both banks of the Kali Gandaki .From here there are nice views of the Nilgiri peaks.
Day 09: Jomsom to Pokhara by air.
Days in the itinerary are always flexible, can be increased and decreased depending on your holiday and time schedule. It can be customized as per your request and budget as well.
